In this day and age, artists and arts administrators face a challenging climate of potential stressors. From political and media perspectives to interactions with colleagues, there exists a culture that can lead to stress and burnout. However, there are many out there who thrive in these environments, and enjoy fulfilling careers in their professions. In this session, Dr. Christian Bernhard, professor of Music Education at SUNY Fredonia, will present research, theory, and best practices about potential pitfalls as well as strategies for navigating these issues, both on a daily and long term basis. Topics addressed include sleep, physical movement, nutrition, happiness, gratitude, and mindfulness. Attendees will examine new techniques and classic reminders for healthy enjoyment of work and life.

Dr. Bernhard is a Professor of Music Education at SUNY Fredonia where he teaches undergraduate courses in instrumental music methods and conducting, as well as graduate courses in music education history, philosophy, psychology, assessment, and curriculum.
