Arts Services Inc. is excited to announce the opening of our “Give for Greatness” grant, providing $2,000 in capacity-building support to small and micro nonprofit arts and culture organizations across Western New York. Our goal is to empower you with the resources needed to elevate your organization and maximize your impact. Let’s break down everything you need to know about applying for this exciting opportunity.
What is Capacity Building?
Capacity building is an investment in the effectiveness and sustainability of a nonprofit. It strengthens a nonprofit’s ability to fulfill its mission by creating balance and alignment among its programs, management, governance, finances, and other structures.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for the “Give for Greatness” grant, your organization must:
- Be focused on arts or cultural activities as your primary mission.
- Hold 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or have New York State CHAR500 status.
- Be based in one of the following areas: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, or Niagara counties, or the Native Nations within these regions.
- Have an operating budget of less than $300,000.
What Can the Grant Fund?
We want to help streamline your operations and set your organization up for success. Here are some examples of what the grant can support:
- Hiring consultants for strategic planning, fund development, or board development.
- Providing training for your board or staff.
- Upgrading or purchasing new software or programs.
- Investing in new computers or other equipment.

What Makes a Successful Application?
To increase your chances of success, your application should clearly outline a specific need or challenge your organization faces and how the grant will provide a long-term solution. Here are a few tips:
- Detail the impact: Show how the grant will positively influence your organization’s effectiveness and sustainability.
- Provide supporting documentation: Include price quotes or agreements to substantiate your requests.
- Maximize the grant amount: Since you either receive the full $2,000 or nothing, ensure every dollar is thoughtfully allocated. Consider including multiple items or services to make the most of the grant.
