Dr. Andrea Nero joins Arts Services Inc. of Western New York as the Development and Engagement Manager, bringing a unique blend of strategic brilliance, inclusive community-building and a keen sense for organizational excellence.
With a rich history in organizational leadership, Andrea holds a PhD in History from SUNY: Buffalo and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) from Rice University. She has successfully developed tailored programs to support start-ups, created a proprietary project management system that improves team productivity and has been an educator for US universities as well as international projects like the Rural Education Project for Chinese schoolchildren. Andrea’s extensive career also features tenure as a fellow at both the Omohundro Institute and the American Philosophical Society, where she uncovered marginalized contributions and furthered DEI efforts in the field. She has published three books on subjects including history of science, American history and Italian culture. Currently, Andrea is also affiliated with the Museum Studies department at Harvard University, where she is researching ways arts and cultural institutions can repair community relationships during a crisis of confidence.
At ASI, Andrea spearheads the strategic annual development plan and timeline in collaboration with the Executive Director. She’s the mastermind behind innovative individual giving campaigns and excels at nurturing relationships with ASI’s diverse array of supporters, including first-time and emerging cultural patrons. Andrea identifies and solidifies strategic partnerships, driving both recruitment efforts and donor relationships. Ever the opportunist, she’s always on the hunt to activate new funding channels, from grants to corporate sponsorships. Andrea also works closely with ASI’s Fiscal Manager, Mark, to oversee the fiscal sponsorship program and assists the Grants & Programming Director, Holly, with re-grant programs.
